I think once an I-485 is filed every one should be equally treated based on their category. If country qouta is based on countries interest, there should not be more applications accepted than within the sitpulated visas. That is not the case here. We have thousands of applications stuck at USCIS. Since GC processing puts certain restrictions on ones ability to shape ones career, it is not fair to ask one applicant wait for more time than other applicant purely based on country quota. We should keep in mind that gc processing effects indaviduals not their countries. So, it is discriminating to make one applicant wait while issing visa's to other person with same qualifications (except that he is from another country).

I DID NOT pay the huge fee.
I think they had given a waiver till August 21 or so for the July fiasco filers.

All the suggestions are good but think who gets to influence USCIS more ? It is the EMPLOYERS.
Action Items are:
1. We let our employers know the current issue
2. Notify AILA , MEDIA that we are boycotting work or taking leave for a day or a whole week. This is the same day everyone takes leave and notifies the employer that they should do something

There is no big secret, except little bit of planning and starting something.
I came here in 1997(at 22), but was in school for 2 years, started working in 1999. As soon as I started, I put money in 401k. I married early in 2000(I was only 25 then), my wife already did her M.S by then, she started working in 2000 even before our marriage. I made her put into her 401k(max out most of the time), we also put into esop. Together we have 300k in investment assests in 401k. Then I started a brokerage account and put 1500 every month, that accumualted to 150k now.
I brought house early, as soon as I am out of PT, with in first year of H-1, it didn't appreciate much but I still have an equity of 200k in primary house(I took 15 year mortgage) and I brought another house, that I rent out which as an equity of 50k. I have some cash. I brought couple of plots in india and also constructing an house in my native town in India.
But i want to do something else, I am happy with my life, for last two years, I got into golf, tennis and exercise, trying to be physically fit. I used to worry about GC before, not any more, whatever happens will happen.
Except that I am not progressing ahead in my carreer, I want to do MBA and get into something else. Right now most of my money goes to day care for two of my kids around 24,000.
More than money, you have to develop right habits, be healthy and have positive attitude.
In my case, Secrets of my lifestyle are
1. Getting started early, buying an house at 26. STarting 401k early.
2. Marrying a girl, who is already working.
3. Maxing my 401k and esop plan.
Your planning and strategy was really good . I bought a home in 2002.Do you think buying a second home in this market is a good idea ? Can we cover up the mortgage with the rent ? What is your experience with this ?

Order of processing has nothing to do with PD being current. Now this is not an opinion it is a crystal clear CIS pronounced fact. (http://www.murthy.com/news/n_nsccpr.html)
Pre-adjudication where work continues irrespective of visa # availability (where everything else is done except visa # allocation) happens as per the RD of the I-485.
Now even if gc101's I-485 get's pre-adjudicated sometime next year w/o PD being current his I-485 is not "approved" unless visa # is allocated. Now suppose his PD becomes current after his app. is pre-adj., he has very little time to add the spouse name as there is chance like in June that they may quickly assign the visa # and "approve" the file in days.
So gc101 would be safe if his PD becomes current before his file is pre-adj or get's stuck (!) in something like FBI namecheck after pre-adj. which might allow him time to add his wife's name.
My company lawyer addressed this part. The way it works is that they will work on your file only when your PD is current. So even if you apply now, they most likely wont work on it after July as your PD wont be current. Then when next time (say in Jan 2008) when your PD becomes current, they will pick up all the files for that month and start working on it. It might be that they will work on your file on Jan1st or Jan 31st. You can send your wife AOS the moment your PD becomes current. So you want to make sure that it reaches there before they approve your AOS. In case you are extremely unlucky, then they would start working on your file on 1st day of the month and finish it before end of that day, making it impossible for your wife's application to go through. Thats rare though. So if you can make sure that her app reaches on 1st day of the month in which PD is current, then they should most likely add her to your AOS and work on those together and make your life go forward....its a chance which you will be taking...But again life is a chance

The instructions say this "NOTE: Please spell out U.S. Department of Homeland Security; do not use the initials "USDHS" or "DHS.""
You have written the most important words, atleast u did not abbreviate!
Also remember there is NO OTHER "department of homeland security" in the world. Check has gone to USCIS office. They know u mean US, even if u did not write it.
So I am confident that their banks will cash your check. Keep a watch on your bank online. Texas cashed our checks in 7 days and also sent receipt. Dont know how Nebraska is doing. Call USCIS in 1-2 weeks if they did not cash checks.
Worst case they will send the application back. You can then quickly fix the check and resend application. Hopefully if you have applied in time, then a delay of 1-2 weeks does not matter.

my friends licence has been invalid for about 2 months now. now he got the H1 extension approval he is waiting for. can he get his DL extension just by showing the h1 extension. or does he have to give the road test again. He lives in NJ.

So basically, an unlawfull alien residing in US for past 5 years gets change his status to PR, moreover he is not restricted by the per country limit he can go from filing I-485 to get a Visa number allotted to him practically overnight..and not having to wait like folks from India or China ....
I dont think this bills has anything favourable to legal immigrants... It better to apply as the other category ....

Well, I don't think I am at the end of line of 300,000 people. There must be lots and lots of people whose priority date is after April 2004 might have filed. This includes 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
So I think 3 years is intelligent guess. But who knows I am just trying to make myself happy and trying to stay positive.

When USCIS say 300K applications , isnt that 300K Application PACKETS = 600 - 800K individual AOS apps?. its hard to believe thye have opened them all to get the count.
