What is the best way to send the documents to the emabassy? I asked because I live in Ahmedabad and I am planning to go for stamping the very next day I arrive in India.

Better you send the documents on the same day you take the appointment while you are in US....send it with priority - 2 days and with receipt acknowledgement...you will get atleast 2 weeks time after you schedule your appointment. [It will always be a touch an go situation..better you send the documents through Fedex or UPS the same day you take appointment...62$ for sending the documents is much less then taking appointment again and going through the same process....

Please visit VFS site and read all about Mumbai consulate...the rules at mumbai consulate are different from the other 4 offices

As you are exempt from the cap, you can start working as soon as you get new petition approval.

Also, I do not think stamping should make a difference in your suitation as HIB visa count is against the petition and not stamping. However, I would highly recommend that you speak to a lawyer.

I got my receipt numbers from the checks... I issued my personal checks where checks address is different that 485 address.... I hope this is clear... Please don't worry too much...everyone will get the receipts soon...

My H1 sponsor informed me that the check he submitted along with my application on Wednesday 5/7 - Non-masters non-premium processing:)

Even my friend's application check seems to have been deposited by USCIS, does that mean that the case is selected in the lottery? (Or is there any other scenario?).

Thanks in advance to anyone who can throw some light on this.

Update:

I just verified that there is a receipt number on the back of the check, so that's the EAC/WAC number!

I have one question about dependent I-485.. I filed I-485 to Texas Service Center under EB-3 in 2007, Applied EB-2 140 to Nebraska Service Center under EB2, ported priority date. Now I have to add dependent 485 appication, which service center I have to send ?

Opened SR got a response letter informin that my case is within the "6months" window frame @ TSC so i guess I should see an FP notice by March 11 '08., Am a july 17 filer @ TSC, RD is Sep 11 and got EAD and AP long time back.

I think people should refrain from making congressional enquiries just to get a status update on their case. It should be used only under special circumstances, RFE, rejection, etc.

If everyone starts doing this, these congressional offices will just not entertain our genuine requests anymore.

If you really need to check just the status, take an Infopass.

Just my 2 cents.

If it is the first time, they might ask for a birth certificate

We got a new SSN for my wife after we got her EAD in the mail. They did not ask for the birth certificate. They only needed a valid id (such as passport/ driving license) + the EAD card + completed application form. We got the SSN card in less than 10 days, but I think this depends on where you are. If it helps, we were told 10 days, and we actually got it in 10 days.

You have to actually work for company A- be on their staff, be on their payroll, be there full time employee. W2 is only issued if u work with them and draw salary.

Ok. So whoever runs my payroll is my employer. Lets say its Company C.

Question is

Am I obligated to Company A in any way?
Am I obligated to Company B which had my recent H1B?

Based on the answers i am assuming no but will wait to hear from you guys.

My lawyer asked me to write my A# from my OPT card that I used in 1999-2000. According to him A# is assigend once for an individual and if you were assigned before you can continue to use that in future. Though I never used that in the past 7-8 years.

My wife got an OPT card last month and we used A# from that card for her dependent I-485 application


Is this information true?

My 140 is pending and I don't have the A#. Can I use that from my OPT card?

Can you please let me know which service center (Texas or Nebraska) processed yours and your wife's I485 application.

If you don't mind can you please let me know how long it took to receive I-485 receipt notice and Finger print notice (for your wife).

Priority date is 08/01/06 (EB2). Becoming current on June 1st 2011. Need to add my wife as dependent to my green card process (she is in US in H4 status now). Texas Service Center is processing my I-485.

I am also in the same situation. I filed 485 in July 2007 and got married later. I will be filing my wife's 485 in June. I was wondering how long will it take for her to get her 485 approved.
