i don't see why so many people think iChat on a phone is so crazy or why it would need to be wifi.
i have a button on my Razr that is a direct connection to AIM so instant messaging from a phone isn't crazy, two of the people on my buddy list are on mobile phones.
iChat would be faster then texting and just cause this "second phone" would be very iChat based doesn't mean it wont be a phone. It sounds very sidekick like and the sidekick of course has AIM on it.
If they make a phone that will beat the Sidekick (shouldn't be too hard) then i'm in, i'd prefer that then just a a regular candy bar phone

You could use some sort of plug in like, a vocoder, auto-tune, vocal transformer in logic.

-Live Turn By Turn directions w/ optional audio interactivity
-High contrast color option
-Eliminate highways & toll roads options
-Bike & foot paths

-Weather overlay
-Street View Fly thru previews
-View options, with intelligent default zoom levels & levels of detail:
---Zoom to fit where you are and your destination with total trip info, and zoom in live as the two points get closer together

Guy had the sit-down one local for $750 in perfect condition - wow, sold it in under 1/2 hour... :eek:
The upright version of this one that was at my university's arcade got many a quarter from me. "Entering Sector 1... Point... 2." :D
I would have bought the sit-down one for that price, too. Some collectors would have paid more, just to get a working vector CRT.

This is my first time witnessing a live Macworld. I made the switch early last year and have become more addicted since. I was hoping for an update to the Mac Pro. A price drop, Cores maybe. Some More Juiciness about Leopard. I think the iPhone is really cool! I'm not that interested tho. I'm happy for everyone that has been dreaming of one.
I found the announcement of the name change to be scary. Obviously this keynote is a good example of how they are dropping the "computer" focus on the company. Which is kinda cool in a way but scary too. Just when I start getting into this whole thing they switch focus? I hope this isn't as bad as I think it could be.
I'm voted on disappointed but I am not totally bummed. I still think it was a great keynote. And I still think Steve and Apple are "Wicked cool". I can't wait to see the video.:cool:
My fellow Chicago mac user makes a good point ... I too found the name change disconcerting. It seems like Steve is setting us up for a time in the near future when OS-X will be set free to appear on any Intel box and Apple will stop making computers, focusing instead on OS-X based entertainment and communications devices. Mac World isn't even about the Mac anymore.
But still, there will be many, many more Steve announcement keynotes this year ... there's the Leopard/iWork/iLife release still to come. There will be WWDC. Will we have Mac-based keynotes anymore? Maybe not. Now that they've shifted to Intel and there's no surprise left, unless a new form factor is introduced, changes may come regularly and quietly.

:eek: you've got to be joking right now. it's not supposed to be cushy, it's supposed to be horrible, and it's supposed to last until the day they die if they don't get the death penalty. before we were talking about life in prison without parole versus the death penalty, and now you're saying that someone who is currently death penalty worthy in the states should be put in prison for 16 years and thats sufficient? By this time next year, the memory chips will definitely be a lot cheaper so 2G (or more) will be easily do-able in something as small as the Shuffle for a decent price. Hopefully the battery life can be improved as well. Not much use being able to store 36 hours of music and not being able to listen to it.

I just switched. It was pretty easy. I just made sure to read all the fine print. I was super worried about extending my contract/losing unlimited data. Checked my data usage while I was there and I'm so glad I'm grandfathered in!

Anyone lining-up at either At&t or Apple at the Gardens Mall. I spoke with At&T today at the Mall and they said they are opening at 8AM on July 11th, even though the Mall doesn't officially open till 10AM.

This is great news if it means the end of mobile me. Die Mobile Me - DIE DIE DIE. Anything will be better than the self centered sounding @me.com. I simply will not use the email address in a professional context. Don't mind @Mac.com, and still use it, but @me.com sends the wrong message.

The iPhone 4 is a perfectly fine device. In many ways its still ahead of the competition. Take the outstanding battery life, awesome software integration and the beautiful Retina display- to me those are three big features no other competitor has matched.
Apple could do nothing for the next year and still have a phone that can be compared favorably with every phone on the market. Manufacturers are trying to compete with the iPhone by producing larger screens and misc. features not many will use- i.e. mini hdmi ports on phones, etc. They lose focus of the overall user experience- Apple has this down pat.
Apple is essentially a failure of its own success.

you can "buy" an android phone with iphone 4 like internals and a 4" screen for $50. sometimes less. the thunderbolt just went on sale for $50.
iphone 4 is $300 after you factor in activation and tax
for a lot of people that's a big turn off

Any update MUST have the ability to store maps on the device and not stream them from the internet. Data rates are so massively high in other countries that I usually keep data off, or if I have the international plan, will not waste my precious MB's on maps unless I have to.

My wife has bought a MacBook Pro and I have put Outlook 2011 on it. Can I sync my iPad's contacts and calendar without syncing with iCal and Address Book as these will have my wife's contacts and calendar which we don't want to mix. iTunes only allows syncing with Address Book and iCal.

I too have 9500 r/o minutes, a family plan @1400 min/month.
If I drop, I loose the R/O, loose the top ten, and now flirt with overage.
Just another tactical way to spin it to look like they are doing everyone a favor. (those on higher plans** that is)
If most of your calls are to mobile numbers, now you can drop to a 900 minute or 700 minute plan (depending on how many minutes you need for landline calls). Yes you will loose a bunch of rollover minutes, but you won't need them anymore. A-List in your case, requires a plan of 900 minutes or more, so if you want to keep A-List (for landlines) then drop down to 900 minute plan. In addition, you can move all those A-List mobile numbers off of the A-List and make room for more landlines in there.
